JOHN E. FERNANDEZ has been named director of Environmental Solutions Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a full professor and director of the Building Technology Program and is director of the Urban Metabolism Group at MIT. Fernandez earned a bachelor’s from MIT and a master’s from Princeton University.

NASHID MADYUN has been appointed director of the Southeastern Regional Black Archives and Research Center at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). He was director of the Hampton University Museum. Madyun received a bachelor’s from Mississippi Valley State University, a master’s from Delta State University and a doctorate from the University of Phoenix.

She also serves as senior associate dean for faculty in the College of Arts and Science and is the director of the Research on Individuals, Politics & Society Laboratory at Vanderbilt.
