A few weeks ago, I was sitting on a panel with a rabid white woman who repeatedly insisted that Black people “get over” history. Like a dog with a bone, she had a point she would not let go. “Slavery happened. What does it have to do with today,” she said, her voice rising.

Students Stand Up Against Racially Offensive Parties
A coalition of University of Illinois students and others that formed in the aftermath of a “Tacos and Tequilas” party that offended Mexican American students urged the administration to implement policies that discourage racism. It’s one example of how students are standing up to combat the hostility created by racially insensitive parties being thrown by college students.
