In a qualitative study examining the lives of 20 collegiate Black males, Iowa State University graduate student researchers determined the six reasons why Black males struggle at predominately White institutions: isolation, the lack of positive images, the lack of preparation, financial factors, the lack of mentors and pride.

Stanford ‘Invests’ In Faculty Diversity
Stanford University has developed a $4.5 million program to provide two-year fellowships, faculty mentors and seminars on the academic profession to 36 doctoral candidates over the next four years as part of an effort to prepare graduate students from diverse backgrounds for a career in academia.
