Community college leaders anticipate wrestling with the increasing challenges of students enrolling at their institutions at different ages, with different backgrounds and beliefs and with vastly different levels of preparation. But there are many other issues of concern as well, such as keeping up with technology and recruiting and retaining diverse faculty.

Fisk’s Fire Sale of O’Keeffe Painting Blocked by Tennessee Attorney General
Fisk University’s proposed sale of a priceless Georgia O’Keeffe painting was blocked Thursday by the Tennessee Attorney General, who said the sale would be “an artistic and financial loss for Fisk and would detract from the rich cultural environment of this community.”

Julianne Malveaux Named Bennett College President
In a move that surprised many within academia, Bennett College trustees have named noted commentator and economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux president of the women’s college, effective June 1. Malveaux is best known for her numerous appearances on CNN and BET, and her columns have appeared regularly in USA Today, Ms. Magazine, Essence and this publication, Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. Malveaux replaces retiring Bennett College President Johnnetta Cole, whose leadership is credited with bringing Bennett back from the brink of deaccreditation and fiscal insolvency.

Knoxville College Awaiting Arrival of New President — Three Months After Job Offer
After calling the police to remove its last president, historically Black Knoxville College enthusiastically announced the selection of a Virginia State University professor as its new president. But nearly three months after that announcement, the new president hasn’t been seen around campus much and alumni are wondering if he’s actually coming to the struggling institution.
