Tragedy Strikes Two Campuses, Threatens One
An Auburn University student was found shot to death on a highway and the University of North Carolina student body president was found fatally shot on a Chapel Hill, N.C. street. Meanwhile, eight dorms at the University of California, Davis were evacuated Wednesday night and a student was arrested after explosives were found in a dorm room.

Diversity Bill Aims to Curb School Violence in California
California Assemblyman Mike Eng, D-Monterey Park, chairman of the Select Committee on Hate Crimes, has proposed a bill that would allocate up to $150,000 to establish a pilot diversity and sensitivity curriculum for select California school districts, according to a Los Angeles Times article.

Public School Crime Down, But It’s Still More Dangerous For Black, Hispanic Children
The percentage of public schools experiencing incidents of crime was lower in 2005 than in 2003. In 2003, 65 percent of schools reported crimes to the police compared to 61 percent of schools in 2005, the latest year analyzed by the National Center for Education Statistics.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Announces $500,000 Campus Safety Initiative
MILWAUKEE The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee says it will start late-night walking patrols in the neighborhoods near the school, hire more officers and seek a review of its security procedures as part of a $500,000 campus safety initiative.
