HBCU Students More Civic Oriented, Says Survey
A new survey says 79 percent of students attending historically Black colleges and universities highly value civic concerns, and more than half (52.7 percent) say “becoming a community leader” is an “essential” or “very important” goal. By comparison, only 35.2 percent of all students held such a view.

Affirmative Action May Suffer Setback, Says Former Brown Counsel
Jack Greenberg, the Alphonse Fletcher Professor of Law at Columbia University and the former co-counsel with Thurgood Marshall on the Brown v. Board of Education case, said Tuesday that reports of the oral arguments in the recent U.S. Supreme Court cases on school desegregation have made him pessimistic, but hopeful that the one or two justices who have the reputation of being inhospitable to integration will vote to uphold the plans.

University of Michigan Delays Admissions Decisions
LANSING, Mich. University of Michigan officials said Wednesday they will delay making new student admissions decisions until Jan. 10 as the school sorts out its options related to a state ban on some types of public affirmative action programs.
