Fisk University Ready to Sell Prized O’Keeffe Painting
Officials at financially troubled Fisk University have signaled to state officials this week that the Nashville, Tenn., school is ready to sell its prized Georgia O’Keeffe painting to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum for $7 million, although other potential buyers have offered more than three times that amount in the past month.

Knoxville College Awaiting Arrival of New President — Three Months After Job Offer
After calling the police to remove its last president, historically Black Knoxville College enthusiastically announced the selection of a Virginia State University professor as its new president. But nearly three months after that announcement, the new president hasn’t been seen around campus much and alumni are wondering if he’s actually coming to the struggling institution.

Clark Atlanta Fight Over Engineering Program Headed to Court
Clark Atlanta University Professor Lebone Mobeti settled in for what he figured would be a long term as chairman of the school’s engineering department when he took over the post in 2004. Instead, a year later he found out school officials were disbanding the department. Now a court will decide if the HBCU should continue offering engineering programs.

Clark Atlanta Students Revolt Over Tuition Hike
Last week, an anonymous group of students at Clark Atlanta University posted fliers which read “Speak Now, Act Now” to demand the resignation of school president Walter Broadnax, who has led the school since 2002. The fliers protested Broadnax’s high salary while students’ tuition, room and board have recently been increased.

Survey Says … Students Don’t See Eye to Eye
Minority college students say access to campus computer labs and improved campus security are among the things that make for a satisfying undergraduate experience. Their White counterparts, however, don’t share those priorities. Also, male and female students appear to have varied priorities, according to results of a student survey conducted by Noel Levitz, a consulting firm for higher education.

Duke Fallout Continues as Top Black Professor Resigns From Race Committee
The Duke University professor heading a university-appointed committee to investigate race relations on campus in the wake of last spring’s men’s lacrosse scandal has resigned from that committee in protest against the recent decision to invite two of the players back on to campus.
