N.M. Joins Troops-to-Teachers to Meet Shortage

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The state is now participating in the ‘Troops to Teachers’ initiative.
 
It helps military service members and veterans transition into careers as teachers. 
New Mexico was awarded nearly half a million dollars in federal funding for the program. 

While the program has been around since 1993, it’s the first time New Mexico has participated. 
The education secretary says with New Mexico’s many Air Force bases, the program should help fill the teacher shortage.
